Bracket holding wire to tailshaft housing bolt is directly in front of the speedo takeoff on this 84 240 with 355K miles.

Wider view of flange area with OD wire bullet connector at the left looking up from underneath.

A 20W bulb is my test light. Blindingly bright but it draws enough current to prove supply is adequate.

The photographer and the camera are upside down. Right is left. Exhaust (passenger side) is toward upper left on this photo looking toward the front.

View looking up on driver's side of transmission. Solenoid is very rusty. Black corrugated loom used to protect the white wire inside.

Better view of loom. Test light connected to sharp pick proved the solenoid's lead wire is powered.

Protective cover on solenoid is cracked. Solenoid housing has bubbling rust.

Relay location to left of glove box opening.

White lead to relay terminal 87 removed from connector housing.

Retaining tab on faston terminal is clear, including tool marks made while releasing it from the connector housing.

With ignition on, OD engaged (“OD off” light is unlit) power is present on terminal 87. Momentarily touching the white lead to the powered terminal should result in a spark and an audible click from the solenoid, given the engine is not running to mask the sound.
